## Question

Differentiate between wired and wireless communication systems.

## Short answer

Wired uses physical cables, offers higher security and stable data rates but no mobility; wireless uses free-space EM waves, provides mobility and easier installation but suffers from interference and lower security.

## Answer

| Point | Wired | Wireless |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | Physical cable (copper, coaxial, fiber) | Free space (air or vacuum) as EMW |
| Mobility | Fixed, no mobility | Allows mobility of users |
| Installation | Costly and time-consuming to lay cables | Quick and cheap, good in hilly areas |
| Security | More secure, hard to tap | Less secure, signal can be intercepted |
| Interference | Little (shielded cable, fiber) | High, affected by weather and other signals |
| Data rate | High and stable | Lower and variable |
| Examples | Telephone, LAN, optical fiber, cable TV | Radio, TV, mobile phone, Wi-Fi, satellite |

The answer's key points as multiple-choice questions, with the correct option and why.

1. Which system allows user mobility?
   A. Wireless
   B. Wired
   C. Both equally
   D. Neither
Answer: A. Wired systems are fixed to cables. (Key point: Mobility)

2. Which is more secure and why?
   A. Wireless; it cannot be intercepted
   B. Wired; it is open to anyone
   C. Wired; the signal is hard to tap
   D. Both are equal
Answer: C. Wireless signals can be intercepted. (Key point: Security)

3. Which is more affected by weather and other signals?
   A. Wireless
   B. Wired shielded cable
   C. Optical fiber
   D. Wired Ethernet
Answer: A. Free-space signals suffer interference. (Key point: Interference)
