## Question

Show your acquaintance with types of paints.

## Short answer

Oil paints use drying oil for wood. Enamel paints use varnish for a hard glossy finish. Emulsion paints are water‑based for interiors. Anticorrosive paints protect steel; cement paints for rough walls; bituminous paints for underground pipes; aluminium and fire‑retardant paints for special uses.

## Answer

Types of paints:
1. **Oil paint:** pigment in a drying oil (linseed oil); used for wood and walls.
2. **Enamel paint:** pigment in varnish; hard, glossy, used on metals and machines.
3. **Emulsion paint:** water-based polymer emulsion; interior walls.
4. **Cement paint:** cement + pigment; exterior rough walls.
5. **Anticorrosive paint:** red lead or zinc chromate for steel structures.
6. **Bituminous paint:** bitumen in solvent; underground pipes and metal in wet places.
7. **Aluminium and fire-retardant paints:** for tanks, heat reflection and fire protection.
Distemper is a water-thinned paint of chalk and glue for ceilings.
