## Question

Assume that you are asked to prepare a final report of a power house construction project. Write only the following parts: Title page, Abstract and Recommendation.

## Short answer

A final report on a 250 kW power house in Gorkha includes title page, abstract, and recommendations. Completed in 23 months at Rs. 5.9 crore, it supplies 320 households. Recommendations cover operator training, tariff and maintenance fund, flood protection, and line extension.

## Answer

#### Abstract

This report presents the results of the construction of the 250 kW Khola run-of-river power house in Gorkha district, carried out from February 2025 to December 2026. The project was needed because the villages had no reliable electricity and depended on kerosene and a distant grid line with frequent breaks. The work included the headworks, a 1.4 km canal, a penstock, the power house building, a Pelton turbine with a generator, and an 11 kV transmission line to 320 households. The project was completed in 23 months, three months later than planned because of the monsoon and delays in the delivery of the turbine, at a total cost of Rs. 5.9 crore, 3 percent more than the budget. The plant has operated for 20 days with a capacity factor of about 62 percent. The report recommends training local operators, a proper tariff and a maintenance fund, flood protection of the intake, and extension of the line to the next village.

#### Recommendation

1. Form a trained operation and management committee, and train at least three local people in operation and repair.
2. Fix a tariff and collect a monthly fee to build a maintenance fund; keep spare parts for the turbine and generator in store.
3. Build a protection wall for the intake and the power house against floods.
4. Inspect the canal and penstock before and after each monsoon.
5. Use the extra power for small industries such as grain mills to increase income.
6. Extend the transmission line to the neighbouring village, where 120 households are waiting for supply.
7. Keep all drawings and test records in the committee's office for future repairs.

## Check yourself

The answer's key points as multiple-choice questions, with the correct option and why.

1. Which statement about the project's completion is in the abstract?
   A. Completed in 23 months, three months late, at Rs. 5.9 crore, 3 percent over budget
   B. Completed early under budget
   C. Completed on time and on budget
   D. Not completed
Answer: A. The delays were due to the monsoon and turbine delivery; the cost exceeded budget by 3 percent. (Key point: Abstract content)

2. Which components did the work include?
   A. Only a solar panel
   B. Headworks, 1.4 km canal, penstock, power house, Pelton turbine and generator, 11 kV line to 320 households
   C. A coal plant
   D. A dam and reservoir
Answer: B. The abstract lists the headworks, canal, penstock, power house building, Pelton turbine with generator, and an 11 kV transmission line. (Key point: Components of the project)

3. Why does the report recommend a tariff and monthly fee?
   A. To punish users
   B. To pay for the title page
   C. To build a maintenance fund for repairs and spare parts
   D. To reduce the plant capacity
Answer: C. A tariff generates a fund to keep the plant maintained and supply spare parts. (Key point: Sustainability recommendations)

4. Which recommendation protects against flood damage?
   A. Extend the line to the next village
   B. Keep drawings in the office
   C. Use extra power for grain mills
   D. Build a protection wall for the intake and power house
Answer: D. A protection wall for the intake and power house is the flood-protection measure. (Key point: Risk-based recommendation)
