Subject: Submission of the report on students' access
to the internet

Dear Sir,

As per your letter of 5 September 2026, the committee
formed to investigate the access of the internet to the
students of our college has completed its study. I am
pleased to submit herewith the report.

The report is based on a survey of 400 students, visits to
the labs, library and hostels, and interviews with the
network staff. It gives the findings and recommendations
of the committee.

On behalf of the committee, I thank all who helped us. We
shall be pleased to explain any part of the report.

Yours sincerely,

#### Abstract

Internet access is essential for engineering students for learning, assignments, research and online classes. This report studies how well the students of Himalaya Engineering College can access the internet. A survey of 400 students (out of 1,500), observations and interviews were used. The findings show that 78 percent of the students depend on mobile data, and only 30 percent are satisfied with the campus Wi-Fi, which is slow and covers only two of the six buildings. The hostels have no Wi-Fi. Students spend an average of Rs. 800 a month on mobile data, and 22 percent of them find it difficult to pay. The lab computers are old, and their connection is often down. The report recommends extending the Wi-Fi to all the buildings and hostels, increasing the bandwidth to 300 Mbps, upgrading the labs, providing low-cost data packages, and training students in the proper use of the internet.

#### Recommendation

1. Extend the campus Wi-Fi to all six buildings, the library and the hostels within six months.
2. Increase the bandwidth from 50 Mbps to at least 300 Mbps, and take a second line as a backup.
3. Upgrade the lab computers and the network equipment.
4. Appoint a network administrator and set up a help desk for complaints.
5. Make an agreement with an internet service provider to give discounted data packages to students.
6. Introduce a fair-use policy and security measures (login, filtering, antivirus).
7. Organise training in research skills, safe use and cyber security.
8. Review the system every year with feedback from students.

   B. It summarises results in a table
   C. It lists the references
   D. It provides the title page
Answer: A. The letter submits the report, refers to the authorisation letter, briefly describes the basis, and thanks and offers explanation. (Key point: Letter of transmittal purpose)

2. Which finding appears in the abstract?
   A. 78 percent of students depend on mobile data and the campus Wi-Fi covers only two of six buildings
   B. All hostels have fast Wi-Fi
   C. Lab computers are new
   D. Students pay nothing for data
Answer: A. The survey found heavy dependence on mobile data and limited Wi-Fi, with no hostel Wi-Fi. (Key point: Key findings in abstract)

3. What does the report recommend for bandwidth?
   A. Reduce it to 25 Mbps
   B. Increase it from 50 Mbps to at least 300 Mbps and take a second line as backup
   C. Keep 50 Mbps
   D. Switch to mobile data only
Answer: B. Recommendation 2 raises bandwidth and adds a backup line. (Key point: Bandwidth recommendation)

4. Which recommendation addresses the cost students pay for data?
   A. Appoint a network administrator
   B. Agree with an ISP for discounted data packages for students
   C. Introduce login security
   D. Review the system yearly
