#### Introduction

I participated in a one-day seminar on "Vocational Education" organised by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) at Hotel Himalaya, Lalitpur, on 12 September 2026. It was attended by 150 participants from schools, industries and training centres.

#### Programme and main topics

1. **Inauguration:** the Education Minister stressed the need to link education with jobs.
2. **Session 1: Present situation.** The speakers explained the need for vocational training for the large number of young people who leave school without a skill.
3. **Session 2: Industry's demand.** Employers said that graduates lack practical skills and communication ability.
4. **Session 3: Technology.** Online and blended learning and the use of simulators were discussed.
5. **Group work:** participants prepared suggestions.

#### Main findings

- The public image of vocational education is poor.
- Training is not always matched to the market.
- There is a shortage of trained instructors and up-to-date equipment.
- Cooperation between institutes and industries is weak.

#### Recommendations

1. Our institute should sign cooperation agreements with industries for apprenticeships.
2. Instructors should get regular refresher training.
3. Short market-based courses should be introduced.
4. A career counselling service should be started for students.

I believe the seminar was useful, and I request your permission to share its lessons in a staff meeting.
