## Question

Explain distributed scene rendering in brief.

## Short answer

Distributed scene rendering divides rendering work among networked computers (a render farm) by assigning frames or image tiles. Nodes render independently and a master assembles the final output, reducing total time.

## Answer

**Distributed scene rendering** is the technique of dividing the work of rendering a complex scene or animation among several computers (or processors) connected in a network, so that the image is produced faster.

- The scene (or the animation sequence) is divided into parts: different **frames** go to different machines, or one frame is split into **regions/tiles** or by objects.
- Each node renders its part independently, using the scene description sent to it.
- A master node collects the partial results and assembles the final image or video.
- This is also called a **render farm**; it is widely used for film animation, where one frame can take hours on a single machine.

```text
          Master
        /   |    \
   Node1  Node2  Node3   (each renders its frames/tiles)
        \   |    /
       Combined output
```

The main issues are load balancing and communication cost.
