## Question

Mention the types of cloud computing. Explain about Data Management in the cloud.

## Short answer

Cloud types include public, private, hybrid deployment models and IaaS, PaaS, SaaS services. Data management in the cloud uses object, block, and database storage with replication for durability, sharding for scalability, encryption for security, and trades off consistency and availability per CAP theorem.

## Answer

#### Types of cloud computing
**Deployment models**
- **Public cloud:** services offered over the Internet by a provider to many customers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- **Private cloud:** used exclusively by one organisation.
- **Hybrid cloud:** a mix of public and private clouds.
- **Community cloud:** shared by organisations with similar needs.

**Service models**
- **IaaS:** infrastructure such as VMs and storage (Amazon EC2).
- **PaaS:** development and deployment platform (Google App Engine).
- **SaaS:** ready-to-use applications (Gmail, Office 365).

#### Data management in the cloud
**Data management in the cloud** means storing, organising, protecting and processing data on the provider's infrastructure.

- **Storage models:** object storage (S3), block storage (volumes for VMs), file storage, and cloud databases (relational such as RDS, and NoSQL such as DynamoDB, Bigtable).
- **Distributed storage and replication:** data is spread and copied over several servers and data centres for availability and durability.
- **Scalability and elasticity:** storage and database capacity grow automatically; data is partitioned (sharded).
- **Consistency:** trade-off between consistency, availability and partition tolerance (CAP); many systems use eventual consistency.
- **Security:** encryption at rest and in transit, access control, key management and audit logs.
- **Backup and disaster recovery:** snapshots, geo-replication.
- **Data processing and analytics:** MapReduce, Hadoop, Spark, data warehouses.
- **Data lifecycle and governance:** archiving, retention, deletion, compliance, location of data.
- **Data migration and integration:** moving data in and out and avoiding vendor lock-in.
- **Cost:** pay-per-use for storage, requests and data transfer.

The answer's key points as multiple-choice questions, with the correct option and why.

1. Which cloud is used exclusively by one organisation?
   A. Public
   B. Private
   C. Hybrid
   D. Community
Answer: B. A private cloud serves a single organisation; hybrid mixes public and private. (Key point: Deployment models)

2. Google App Engine is an example of which service model?
   A. IaaS
   B. PaaS
   C. SaaS
   D. DaaS
Answer: B. PaaS gives a development and deployment platform; EC2 is IaaS and Gmail is SaaS. (Key point: Service models)

3. Why is cloud data replicated over several servers and data centres?
   A. To increase availability and durability
   B. To make queries slower
   C. To avoid encryption
   D. To reduce storage cost to zero
Answer: A. Replication protects against failures, giving availability and durability. (Key point: Replication)

4. What consistency approach do many cloud systems use because of the CAP trade-off?
   A. Eventual consistency
   B. No consistency
   C. Strict locking on a single node
   D. Manual reconciliation
Answer: A. Many choose eventual consistency to retain availability and partition tolerance. (Key point: Consistency)
