Abstract

Our college has more than 1,500 students but no hall where all of them can gather. Seminars, cultural programmes, and graduation ceremonies are held in the corridor or hired halls, which causes expense and disturbs classes. This proposal requests approval to build an auditorium of 500 seats on the vacant land beside Block C. The building will have a stage, sound and light system, air-conditioning, and a lobby. The work will take 14 months, and the estimated cost is Rs. 2.8 crore, to be met from the college development fund, alumni donations and hall rent. The auditorium will benefit students, staff, and the neighbourhood.

Recommendation

On the basis of the need, the available land and the financial plan, we recommend that:

  1. The Campus Management Committee approve the construction of the 500-seat auditorium.
  2. A building committee of teachers, students and an engineer be formed to supervise the work.
  3. Work be given to a registered contractor through open bidding, and the design be checked for earthquake safety as per the Nepal National Building Code.
  4. An alumni fund-raising campaign be started immediately.
  5. The hall be rented to outsiders on a fixed rate to cover maintenance costs.
